What the future for education? - Week 2
In this week we reflected about intelligence, and if does it matters.
During my own education, since middleschool until college, I never considered myself an expert or good student, considering the tests and exams that I was submited for. In my contry, intelligence it was always detected in exams that there is 1 answer only.
Even thought we were conditioned to be good at some habilities and not anothers, the society make me feel less than others, just because we were not at the same level.
After I passed the national exam to go to the university, I saw the picture change in my favor. I was in a environment that I was going to be studying what I really wanted to, after all that time. I was encorage to study, to do my best, and I did. I am constantly doing everyday, even when I can not go to university because od Covid-19. I am studying all about myself.
And I wonder, what would be the person today, if I had that oportunity since the beggining of my student years? Since i was that little girl, that loved to read, and discover new vocabulary, from the films that I loved so much.
Kids need to have oportunities. They have to be estimulated, along the way, every kid is good at something, and we as society need to be alert to notice that.
Kids that have priviledge backgrounds to learn since a young age, are now considered experts in what they are doing. A person who have since the beggining privileges, and small advantages will be ate another place than someone who was born in a deprived background.
People may have judgment about my intelligent thought the years. I was affected, but now I can judge too. I can judge that intelligence cant not be mesure that easily. We are all learners, we all deserv opportunities.
What can the teachers do to improve the label of being intelligent or not? View the situation, give students feedbacks in what they are good at. Show them and expect improvement, since a young age, pick the diagnosis by asking. Tecahers have to better questioning and know their students.
